From Silicon Valley to Pixar to Juniper, My Collaboration with Steve Jobs, and Why I Left Corporate Life to Study Eastern Philosophy and Meditation

One day in November 1994, Lawrence Levy received a phone call out of the blue from Steve Jobs, offering him a job running Pixar, a little-known company that had already lost Jobs $50 million. With some trepidation Lawrence accepted the position – and after a few weeks discovered that the company was on the verge of failure. Everything was riding on the studio’s first feature film, code-named “Toy Story”, and even then, it would have to be one of the most successful animated features of all time…

As we all know, Toy Story went on to break box office records and Lawrence and Steve Jobs created one of Hollywood’s greatest success stories producing Academy Award winning films like Finding Nemo, The Incredibles and Cars.

We are thrilled and honoured to announce Lawrence as our keynote speaker.

This fascinating talk will explore the culture of innovation, what it means for leaders to also be collaborators, and the challenges of harmonizing business and creative imperatives. Lawrence will describe the hidden costs of performance culture, and what we can do to build better, stronger, more humanistic organizations.

Lawrence is also the author of To Pixar and Beyond: My Unlikely Journey with Steve Jobs to Make Entertainment History. The London Sunday Times described the book as “a magnifying glass held to the small print that is needed to make magic” and the New York Times called it “enchanting.” The book is an Amazon Best Book of 2016 in Business and Leadership and A Fortune Magazine Best Book of 2016.

Full-Hearted Leadership: How Courage and Love are Reframing Culture in Times of Change

GoPro, the world’s bestselling action camera company, is in the midst of profound organisational change. For years, GoPro was a culture of rapid growth and radical success, however seemingly overnight the company began to face significant fiscal challenges and uncertainty.

How do you influence the dialog at the most senior levels, and encourage leaders to balance their knee-jerk reactions to pressure of immediately focusing on “what we are going to do?!” and instead considering, “who do we want to be?” and “how should we show up each day?”

In this session, attendees will hear how mindfulness, trust, heart, and compassion are evolving cultures from the inside out, and how being who we really are in the workplace can provide a path to sustained resiliency.

We’re All in This Together: Empowering Your Team to Perform at Their Peak

No one is going to save us, but the answer to the global health crisis is in our own hands – however it’s a complex challenge to solve. We need to empower ourselves and our people to take ownership of their wellbeing. The mind and body are interrelated and to have healthier, happier, more productive employees you have to look at the whole person and meet them where they are… not where you are. Peak Sports performance gives us the blue print (e.g. athletes train for 10-20% of their time and rest/recover for the other 80-90%). How can we treat our people as corporate athletes and empower them to perform at their peak?

Olly started his career in professional sport, but his real calling came to him during his seven years in Sales and Marketing for BMW on both sides of the world. It was then that he became increasingly concerned by the poor general health of the average corporate worker. Realising there was a critical need for global change, Olly started to do all he could to empower people to regain control of their own health. This is where he became a Director of the Global Corporate Challenge and helped 'move' 1.5 million people into better health.

Law, Consciousness and Humanity – A Recipe for a Better World

In 2008, a group of big firm lawyers left their jobs to reinvent law. They wanted their work to mean something more than money and status. They wanted to find happiness as lawyers, and use law for what it should be – a force for social good. Their journey towards those goals illustrates what’s possible when you lead without cynicism and with trust in those who choose to join. Even in law.

Built on trust, a sense of community and the desire to be lawyers and happy at the same time, Marque is a beacon of positivity in an industry best known for the cynical pursuit of money. Michael runs the firm with an iron-clad refusal to be taken seriously. He writes extensively on law, media and society, for Crikey and previously The Drum, and he wrote a book called “Kill All the Lawyers”, presumably ironically.

Master Class: Thriving Through Transformations – Navigating Your Path Through Change

Our mindsets determine how we make sense of the world. We always find the world the way we look for it. Changing our mindsets can be difficult because it means letting go of some of our self-imposed limitations that we can’t always recognise. When we are on the abyss of change (a new job, a changed state of health, the end of a relationship, the birth of a child) the world is inviting us to form a new identity, to shift our mindset and embrace new ways of engaging with the world. Each of us has all we need to move through our change – we just sometimes forget this. This workshop will remind you that you have the power to change your narrative and Callan will share techniques on how to do this.

Callan has achieved these results as a leader – building highly engaged and high performing teams during times of intense transition; as a consultant, empowering organisations as they navigate a path through major transformations; and as an individual who has undergone his own transformations and learned a way to make sense of the events of life.

Pauline has overcome adverse beginnings to transform her approach to success by re-engineering her beliefs, questioning the status quo and hacking cultural norms. Self-actualisation has carried her to prosperity while running applauded restaurant Red Lantern and authoring a bestselling book, Secrets of the Red Lantern. Pauline has the skills to connect with her audience in a profound way - she helps awaken and focus people to change their own story for a better future. Pauline says “If we can learn the tools of self-mastery, we can better practice the art of influence over others.”

Pauline’s inspiring keynote will wake you up. Her passion for her subject matter is second to none and when she shares with her audiences the deliberate practice of mindfulness and presence - true presence – magic happens!

How Do You ‘Grow’ Mindful Leadership in Organisations, and What Do You Gain?

Having led teams and change across numerous sectors, often involving training and coaching leaders, Francine will share her experience and learnings on building and benefiting from mindful leadership.

Francine will share:

  • What does mindful leadership look like in daily practice, and what are the personal and organisational benefits?

  • How do you ‘train’ or coach for mindful leadership? Francine will share tools and techniques that have worked with leaders and with her team members

  • What’s our role – how might we live, recognise and progress mindful leadership?

Francine’s passion is in training and coaching individuals and teams to identify and achieve career and life goals. Intrinsic to this is her belief that people want to be their best selves as leaders, colleagues and team members. Sometimes they just need support to recognise the choices available to them, and pragmatic tools to support their journey of change.

In her role as Future Capability Advisor for Westpac Group, Francine has lead the first design thinking project within Group Capability enabling new bank employees to be role ready via virtual delivery mediums only. She is also leading the creation of an enterprise-wide orientation program, which was rolled out out nationally in April 2017. Previously Francine held roles at Allianz, Smith Family and the Indonesian Government.
